The baby is making stronger facial expressions, moving limbs with more coordination, and building the muscles that will soon create more noticeable motion. The eyes can shift position, though eyelids stay closed for now.
A playful size comparison for this week is avocado. That avocado-sized baby is getting longer, stronger, and more expressive with each passing day.
Your bump may feel less like bloat and more like a clear pregnancy shape now. As the uterus grows, you might notice stretching sensations in the lower abdomen or hips.
Week 16 can bring round-ligament pain, backache, constipation, heartburn, breast growth, and occasional dizziness. Some people also notice the first suspicious flutters, while others feel nothing yet and that is normal too.
Keep calcium, protein, and iron steady now because the baby's bones and your expanding blood volume both need support. Milk, paneer, sesame, ragi, greens, pulses, eggs, and fruit can all earn a place on the plate.
Gentle core awareness, pelvic floor work, walking, and prenatal yoga often feel especially useful as posture begins changing. Move in ways that leave you looser, not more compressed.
The possibility of movement can make you extra alert to every bubble and twitch. It is okay to be eager without assuming you are doing something wrong if you still cannot feel anything yet.
A partner can join the anticipation without turning it into pressure. Asking how your body feels is better than asking every hour if the baby has kicked yet.
Urgent warning signs this week include heavy bleeding, severe abdominal pain, fever, fainting, leaking fluid, or a severe headache with vision changes. Seek care for bleeding, severe pain, leaking fluid, fainting, or a strong sense that something is not right, even if routine symptoms have been mild so far.
Some people do, especially in later pregnancies, but many do not feel movement until later. Placenta position and body awareness both affect timing.
Sleeping on your side becomes more comfortable from here. Side-sleeping often starts feeling more comfortable now, so experiment with pillows before sleep becomes more complicated later.
