The tiny heart and basic structures begin to form. This is one of the most active early-building weeks, even if from the outside pregnancy still looks almost invisible.
The neural tube is closing, and the foundations of the brain, spinal cord, and heart are forming rapidly. Tiny limb buds and the earliest hints of facial structures are starting to appear.
A playful size comparison for this week is sesame seed. That little image hides a huge amount of development, because the earliest organ systems are being laid down now.
Hormonal changes often become harder to ignore this week, especially if fatigue or queasiness hits suddenly. You may also feel more emotional, more bloated, or more aware of your breasts than usual.
Nausea, bloating, breast tenderness, frequent urination, food aversions, and deep tiredness often gather speed in week 5. Some people also feel crampy or mildly headachy as hormone levels rise.
If nausea is building, aim for plain, frequent meals such as toast, idli, poha, banana, curd rice, or khichdi instead of forcing large plates. Keep folic acid going and try not to let an empty stomach make queasiness worse.
Short walks, gentle stretching, and light prenatal-friendly movement often feel better than intense sessions now. If exhaustion hits hard, rest is a productive choice, not a failure.
Week 5 can be the point where pregnancy starts feeling both exciting and physically demanding. It helps to let go of the idea that you should already be glowing.
A partner can help by making food easy, noticing when you are wiped out, and taking over small chores without being asked. Practical kindness usually matters more than speeches right now.
Urgent warning signs this week include heavy bleeding, severe abdominal pain, fever, fainting, leaking fluid, or a severe headache with vision changes. Reach out for severe dehydration from vomiting, strong one-sided pain, heavy bleeding, or fever, because those are not symptoms to simply wait out.
Your body is building the placenta and adjusting to a big hormonal shift, so fatigue can be intense very early. Resting more than usual is common.
Early tiredness is common โ rest whenever you can. Tiny snacks kept near your bed or in your bag can be surprisingly useful if nausea arrives before meals.
